GMAT

A jar contains only red and blue marbles in a ratio of 8:9. If there are 45 blue marbles, how many red marbles are there?

Correct answer

D. 40

Explanation

The ratio 8:9 means for every 9 blue marbles there are 8 red. 45 blue ÷ 9 = 5 groups, so red marbles = 8 × 5 = 40.
