A data set has a mean of 29 and consists of 6 numbers. If 5 of the numbers are 40, 25, 33, 40, 25, what is the remaining number?

D. 11

Explanation

Sum of all 6 numbers = mean × count = 29 × 6 = 174. Sum of the known numbers = 163. Remaining number = 174 - 163 = 11.
